Oregon Swimming

Oregon Championship Meets

Description

Oregon Swimming hosts five championship meets a year, three short course and two long course meets. During short course season, the 10 and Under Championships are usually held the second weekend of February, the 11 to 14 Championships are held the third weekend of February and the Senior Championships, open to all swimmers who meet the qualifying standard, are held the last weekend of February or first weekend of March. During the Long Course season, Oregon holds the 10 and Under Championships during the second weekend of July and the 11 and Over Championships during the last weekend of July.

A common misconception is that this meet is called the state championships. While these meets are only open to registered Oregon Swimming swimmers, Oregon Swimming itself does not refer to the State of Oregon. Oregon swimming comprises several Southwest Washington Counties and does not include several Eastern Oregon counties.

How to Qualify

Oregon Swimming publishes a list of A and B time standards. With a few exceptions, most notably the 11-13 age group in the 11 to 14 Championship meet, obtaining an A time during the qualifying period qualifies a swimmer for the meet. Oregon publishes a list of qualifiers for each championship meet in it's times database.

Qualifying Period

Each championship season has it's own qualifying period. For the winter championships, the qualifying period is from February 1 of the previous year to the entry deadline, usually 2 weeks prior to the start of the meet. For Summer championships, the qualifying period is from July 1 of the previous year through the entry deadline. Both Winter and Summer championships, will usually allow swimmers to enter the week before if a new qualifying time was achieved over the weekend prior to the start of the meet. Note, that only new qualifying times will be accepted. Better times will not.
