Cactus Classic Sees New OSI Records SetMay 28, 2008 Several teams made the trip down to Tempe, Arizona over Memorial Day weekend to swim at the 2008 Swimming World Magazine Cactus Classic. Tualatin Hills swimmers Morgon Henderson-Kunz and Kathleen McCarroll lowered their own OSI records while at the meet. Morgon bettered his own OSI record in the 50 free swimming 23.00. The swim was good enough for third at the meet, swimming behind Nick Brunelli, the short course world record holder, and Roland Schoeman who owns several world records as well. His records came in both the 17-18 and Open age groups which stood at 23.03 set by Morgan at Senior Sectionals in March. Kathleen bettered her barely dry 11-12 200 fly record. Her time of 2:25.34 dropped almost 2 seconds off her time of 2:27.29 set at the Tualatin Hills Open earlier this month. Out of State MeetsMay 24, 2008 With the Summer season in full swing, many teams travel outside Oregon for swim meets. As in previous years, Oregon Swimming asks that an email be sent to Robbert van Andel with a link to the results or the name and date of the meet. This information will allow the meets to be added to the Oregon Swimming times database as well as allow OSI to find and publish new records in a timely manner.
New Oregon RecordsMay 21, 2008 2008 is shaping up to be a fast year. After so many world records already this year, it's no surprise that early on in the long course season, Oregon Swimmers are beginning their assault on the Oregon Swimming record book. Over the past two weekends, Oregon Swimmers, participating in two out of state meets and one Oregon meet, set 6 individual records and 3 relay records. The LOSC 11-12 Girls 200 Medley Relay team of Grace Carlson, Brie Balsbough, Brenda Cha and Celia Keany broke the OSI record with a time of 2:09.37, bettering the previous record of 2:10.90 set in 2006 by LOSC's Karen Turner, Cassidy Robinson, Kemy Lin and Sherry Zhang. The LOSC 13-14 Boys 200m Medley Relay team of Daniel Chen, Alex Lyons, Nick Bode and Gunnar Wolfe broke their own OSI record with a time of 1:58.52, bettering their previous record of 2:00.80 set in 2007. The LOSC 13-14 Boys 200m Free Relay team of Daniel Chen, Alex Lyons, Nick Bode and Gunnar Wolfe broke the OSI record with a time of 1:44.31, bettering the previous time of 1:46.86 set in 2007 by LOSC team of Daniel Chenm Andrew Heymann, Alex Lyons and Nick Bode. At the Santa Clara International meet, Kaylin Bing of Roseburg also bettered the 13-14 100 back record, edging out Karen by 4 one-hundredths of a second, 1:03.86 to 1:03.90. Her time is a new Olympic Trial qualifying time. The first new record to be set was at the Tualatin Hills Spring Open held during the first weekend of May. Kathleen McCarroll of THSC bettered Taylor Lakey's 2005 11-12 200 fly record 2:27.29 to 2:28.62. Hit the pool this summer with a new friend from France or SpainMay 1, 2008 We are looking for welcoming host families for French and Spanish swimmers aged 12-18 who will stay with host families in Oregon this summer. The students come throughout June, July, and August for 3-4 week stays. They have all been studying English in their native country, and are coming to the US to practice their English, learn about American culture, and make new friends! We match students with host families based on age, gender and other shared interests. This program is sponsored by ANDEO International Homestays, which is a Portland based nonprofit student exchange organization in its 27th year of coordinating homestays.
