Olympic Trials Day 6 and 7

July 7, 2008

The Olympic Trials are over and we have several weeks to wait for another exciting week of swimming to begin. While Oregon had no swimmers on the final day of swimming, days six and seven of the eight day meet saw a new Oregon record and several second swims from Oregon swimmers. Morgon Scroggy of THSC just missed the Open 200 backstroke of 2:12.40 record in the prelims with her 2:13.52. Morgan placed 16th and earned a trip to the semi-final. During the semi-final Morgan dropped over two seconds swimming 2:11.36 and took the Oregon record held by 1994 World Championships team member Rachel Joseph. More impressive is her time bumped her up 8 places and earned trip to the final, the only OSI swimmer to do so. During the final, Morgan couldn't quite match her semi-final time and swam 2:12.89 for eighth place.

Logan Madson of BEND placed 16th in the 100 fly, making him the only OSI man to earn a second swim. His time of 53.49 just missed the OSI record of 2004 Olympian Igor Marchenko which stands at 53.30. Logan placed 16th in the semi-final with a 53.97.

Emile Ewing of Auburn/THSC also earned a second swim in the 200 back with her 11th place swim of 2:12.88. She repeated the place with a 2:12.94 in the semi-finals. Kathryn Thompson of Tucson Ford/RST placed 23rd with a 2:14.41.

In the 50 freestyle, Kyle Maese of Auburn University/Mt Hood placed 48th swimming 23.12 while Morgon Henderson-Kunz of THSC was 57th with a 23.24.

Saturday saw the final preliminary session of the meet. Logan Storie of CAT swam 15:27.01 in the 1500 free, just missing 2000 Olympian Chris Thompson's 15:23.72 record. Logan's swim was good enough for 11th.

Kim Jasmer of King Aquatics/SCAT swam to a three way tie for 64th in the 50 free, while 12 year old Grace Carlson of LOSC placed 85th with a time of 26.72.

The 2008 Olympic Trials was a very fast meet, with several world, American and Oregon records bettered at the meet. Oregon's swimmers, alumni and coaches did the LSC proud.

Olympic Trials Day Five

July 3, 2008

After the conclusion of the preliminary rounds at the Olympic Trials, Oregon swimmers continued to record some very fast times. Logan Madson of Bend placed 49th in the 200 IM with a best time of 2:06.09.

The women's 200 breaststroke featured two former OSI swimmers. Jessica Embick of Tucson Ford placed 30th with a 2:33.46 while Mari Embertson of Club Wolverine placed 57th with a 2:36.40
