Morgan Scroggy Competes at Pan PacsAugust 26, 2010 Morgan Scroggy, formerly of Tualatin Hills before moving on to college in Georgia, recently competed at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California. At the meet, Morgan placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.13. She placed second in the B final of the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.08. The women's 800 free relay placed first with Morgan joining Dana Vollmer, Katie Hoff and Allison Schmitt and finished in 7:51.21. Great job Morgan. Jason Lezak and Jessica Hardy to Run Clinics in EugeneAugust 23, 2010 Olympians Jason Lezak and Jessica Hardy will be conducting a series of clinics on September 11th and 12th in Eugene. The clinic is open to USA Swimming registers swimmers age 13 to 18 and coaches. Applications will be taken in the order in which they are received, and a waiting list will be compiled if necessary. Please send the application as soon as possible. End of the Season ReviewAugust 21, 2010 With only one meet left on this season's calendar, it is time to begin compiling Top 5, the annual list of top 5 performances for the year. Oregon Swimming uses the times database to compile the list. Please take a moment to review the list of meets in the database. If we've overlooked a meet, especially one from outside the LSC, please email Robbert at robbertv@oregonswimming.org. Bend Swim Club Breaks Pair of OSI Relay RecordsAugust 21, 2010 Two records fell at the Bend Open last week. Bend Swim Club's Teagan Monroe, Tia Lindsay, Maria Wold, and Emma Brady combined to set new 8 and under records in the 100 free and 100 medley relays. In the free relay, the team swam 1:02.00 beating Columbia River's record of 1:02.99 set back in 2004. For the medley relay, the girls broke Tualatin Hills' 1986 record of 1:12.20 by finishing in 1:11.96. Austin Ringquist Places 7th at Youth OlympicsAugust 20, 2010 Austin Ringquist of Hillsboro HEAT placed seventh in the 200 backstroke while representing Team USA at the Youth Olympics. Austin finished the race in 2:04.85 and missed sixth place by one-tenth of a second. The meet concluded today in Singapore. In addition to his individual final swim, Austin also place 14th in the 200 IM, swimming 2:06.51. His leg of the 400 free relay was the fastest of the four swimmers, at 50.88. This team placed fifth. He swam breaststroke on the 400 medley relay and the 400 mixed medley relay which placed sixth. The mixed medley consists of two men and two women. Records Set at Junior NationalsAugust 18, 2010 Three swimmers set new OSI records at the USA Swimming Junior Nationals last week. Jessie James of Corvallis lowered her own 15-16 and Open records in the 1500 freestyle, swimming the metric mile in under 17 minutes. She went 16:59.17 to beat the time she set last year at 17:01.98. Jacob Pebley, also of Corvallis, lowered his own 15-16 boys 200 IM, swimming 2:06.27. His old record stood at 2:06.46, set the week before at Nationals. Neil O'Halloran of Tualatin Hills broke a 23 year old record in the 17-18 boys 100 fly. He finished the race in 55.01 to Mark Thompson's 1987 record of 55.88. Great job swimmers. Oregon Places Second at Western ZonesAugust 17, 2010 Congratulations to Team Oregon for finishing up the 2010 Western Zone meet in 2nd place. Top honors were taken by Pacific Swimming with 1403.5 points, Oregon was 2nd with 969 points, and Colorado finished 3rd with 813.5 points. Special congratulations go to Tristan Furnary, who won both the 50 and 100 backstroke events. He set the OSI record in the 50 at our 11 and Over Championships, and he broke the OSI 100 back record at Zones with a time of 1:05.04 (old record 1:05.38 was set in 2006 by Jacob Pebley) Scott Bergstrom set a Zone record by swimming the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:07.33. Scott also won the 200, 400, 800 & 1500 freestyle events. Curtis Klein was our other event champion on the boys side in the 200 backstroke. Event winners on the girls side included Ellie Thornbrue (200 free & 100 fly), Mackenzie Rumrill (200 free), Alyssa Fuji (800 & 1500 free) and Katie Odiorne (100 & 200 fly). Special thanks to all our coaches and chaperones and officials who helped our swimmers have a great experience in San Jose. US Swimming Nationals RecapAugust 11, 2010 Jacob Pebley, swimming with Corvallis, set 5 Oregon records at last week at Nationals. Jacob swam 56.111 in the 100 back to beat his own 15-16 boys record of 56.78. In finals, he placed 18th with a 56.02. In the finals of the 200 backstroke, Jacob set the 15-16 and Open records with a 2:01.08, good enough for 10th place. He broke his own 15-16 record of 2:02.04 and broke Trent Staley's Open record of 2:01.12. Jacob also broke the 15-16 boys 200 IM record held by Ben Brink at 2:08.09. Jacob finished the race in 2:06.48. Morgan Scroggy, formerly of Tualatin Hills before heading off to Georgia for college, had a great meet. She made the team heading to the Pan Pacific Championships by placing 4th in the 200 freestyle. She also just missed the team in the 200 backstroke by placing 3rd. Records Fall at 11 and Over ChampionshipsAugust 6, 2010 At the 11 and Over Championships this past weekend, three Oregon records were set. Tristan Funary of MAC finished the 11-12 50 back in 30.14, beating Brandon Deckard's 30.95 set in 2008. Michelle Cefal of Tualatin Hills finished the 13-14 100 fly in 1:03.14, bettering Karen Turner's 2008 record of 1:03.22. The Tualatin Hills 13-14 boys 800 free relay team of Benjamin Buchalski, Jackson Wahl, Josh Noll and Jonathan Zoucha swam 8:23.52 smashing the Dolphin's 2009 record of 8:30.53. 2010 Oregon Swimming Zone TeamAugust 2, 2010 60 athletes are chosen to represent Oregon Swimming at the Western Zone Championships in San Jose, California.
