Officials News Archive - January, 2007

This is a busy time for all of us. There will be lots and lots of splashes over the next several weeks. We all need to be in uniform and on deck for those splashes! The athletes will most certainly appreciate that, as will all the other officials on deck.

Here's a run-down of some of our challenges:
Feb 2-3 PIL HS District meets at Dishman Community Center;

Feb 9-10 ALL other HS District meets (see other posting on this page);

Feb 16-18 HS State Championships at Mt Hood Community College. This is a new 3-meet format with 4A-1A meet on Friday and Saturday, 5A meet on Saturday and Sunday, and the 6A meet all three days;

Feb 17-18 OSI 10 & Under SC Championships in Springfield;

Feb 22-25 OSI 11-14 SC Championship in Corvallis. This meet is approved for N3 S&T, Initial N3 CJ, and N2 for other positions. An application for evaluation will be posted soon for this meet;

March 1-4 at MAC. This meet is pending approval for N3 evaluation at all levels;

As you can see there will be a lot of demand on our services to our athletes. This is the time for all of us to step up and work. Support you child of course, but please support all of our athletes.

The HS State Championship meets are being held February 16 - 18. They are being conducted as 3 separate meets. More detailed information can be found on the application to officiate as posted on the Oregon Swimming Home Page. Applications are still being accepted to officiate, but must be submitted by 1/31 to ensure receiving a meet shirt.

The meet referees have asked me to post the following information regarding uniform requirements for this meet:

**Assigned** officials:
Prelims: Ref, DR, CJ wear Long Khaki, light blue short sleeved shirt.
Finals add: Tie or scarf for finals.

**For S/T and timers Prelims: white polo, long blue pants.
For Finals: meet shirt, long blue pants.

In addition, Electronic Timing Judges are being asked to also wear the light blue shirt and khaki pant attire. ET's should expect to attend the beginning of the first official's meeting Friday and be introduced. They will then be excused to make sure everything is set up and ready to go on time.

Please do not submit requests for evaluation for these meets yet. They have not yet been approved as qualifying meets. I expect them to be approved, and when they are I will post request forms on the OSI web site that has the qualifying meet number and submission instructions. I will announce on this site when these forms are posted. BL

Officials are needed for the Chehalem "SuperBowl Sunday" Master's Meet in Newberg on Feb. 4.
Briefing at 8 am, meet starts 9 am, end near 1 pm (plenty of tome to make if for kickoff!!) Contact Bruce Cheney 503 806 1584 (cell).

Please note that a generic application to officiate the HS State Championship meets is posted as a downloadable file on the front page of the OSI web site.
